How We Work
Pioneers in data-driven
athlete development
In 2006, we set out with a singular focus: to raise the bar in athlete development. We built a world-class training culture on data and results. Since then we’ve trained MVPs, All-Stars and Olympic medalists, and helped bring a more data-driven approach to training in pro sports.
The process
Assess, prescribe,
perform
At P3, we go beyond your sport, age, level and position to identify your top training needs. Every athlete is put under the microscope: we use 3D motion capture and force plates to objectively assess how you execute the movements of your sport.
Over two decades, P3 has built the most detailed athlete movement database in sport. That context shows us an individual’s strengths and weaknesses. After an assessment, we use it to prescribe tailored training, and we track the effectiveness of every intervention so exercise selection and program design keep improving.
Performance profiling
Movement
fingerprints
Better performance starts with understanding the physical qualities and biomechanical patterns behind specific outcomes. P3 has kinetic and kinematic data on many of the best athletes in the world doing max-effort jumps, accelerations and changes of direction. That has let us identify the key biomechanical qualities elite athletes share.
Each assessment produces a complete biomechanical profile of an athlete at a point in time. We call these “movement fingerprints” because they’re unique to each athlete.
A profile gives an objective, nuanced picture of strengths, weaknesses and development needs, and becomes the baseline for tracking progress. If an injury happens, it’s a valuable reference for return-to-play checkpoints.
It also lets you compare yourself, or your athlete, to the best in the world in the metrics that matter most: where you stand against the competition, and what it takes to compete at a higher level.
Becoming a P3 athlete
Limited
spaces
Spaces at P3 are limited, and athletes are carefully screened. Acceptance requires a high degree of self-motivation. Once you’re in, P3’s staff and resources are committed to the success of your development.
Professional
Full intensive programs for professional athletes, limited in number so each one can be fully personalized. Everything a pro needs to prepare for the highest level of competition and extend a productive career, backed by 20 years of athlete data and insight.
Amateur
Built with the same personalization and objectives as our pro programs. Amateur and youth athletes are usually earlier in our performance progressions, and may have physical maturation factors we assess and account for from the start.
Santa Barbara
Where P3
started
P3 has two training facilities: Santa Barbara and Atlanta. Each combines an elite athlete training environment with a sports science research lab, staffed by strength coaches, physical therapists and biomechanists working together to optimize the development of our athletes. Pro programs run from a few days to multiple months, depending on the athlete’s needs and goals.
Santa Barbara is where P3 started in 2006. Ninety miles from Los Angeles and a block from the beach in the city’s warehouse district, it’s known as “America’s Riviera”: a place to escape the distractions of big-city life and focus on training.
Atlanta
Inside Emory
Sports Medicine
Opened in 2018 inside the Emory Sports Medicine Complex, P3 Atlanta is our East Coast training hub. The 90,000-square-foot facility is also the Atlanta Hawks’ official training and practice facility, and home to Emory’s Sports Medicine program and Sports Science and Research division. P3 pro basketball players can book time on its practice courts, and P3 sports scientists work alongside Emory’s physicians next door.
